He Spoke, and the Storms Obeyed
By Pinnacle Message
Scripture: “Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.” — Mark 4:39 (NKJV)
Narration:
It was night on the Sea of Galilee. The sky turned black, the waves grew wild, and the seasoned fishermen—men who had seen storms before—were afraid for their lives. Jesus, however, was asleep on a cushion, undisturbed by the terror around Him.
When His disciples shook Him awake, crying, “Don’t you care that we’re drowning?” Jesus did not panic. He did not argue. He did not explain. He spoke. And the storm surrendered.
With three words—“Peace, be still”—the raging sea obeyed its Creator.
Exposition and Interpretation:
The Gospel of Mark (4:35–41) gives us a picture of both Christ’s humanity and His divinity. He slept like a man but calmed the sea like God. The storm was real, violent, and overwhelming—but not greater than the authority of the One in the boat.
His rebuke wasn’t only for the wind. It was also for the fear within His disciples. “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Their eyes had been fixed on the waves instead of the Word.
This passage teaches us that storms are not signs of God’s absence, but often a stage for His revelation. Jesus may not always prevent the storm, but He always has power over it.
Message to Believers:
Dear believer, you may be weathering a fierce storm—financial distress, emotional pain, spiritual confusion. You’ve cried out like the disciples, “Lord, don’t You care?” But hear this: the same voice that created the sea can command it into silence.
Let this word guard your feet on your spiritual journey. Keep Christ in your boat. Even if He seems silent, He is present. And when He speaks, no wave dares to defy Him.
Don’t measure the presence of God by the peace around you—but by the peace within you. For even in the storm, He is Lord.
