Time and Chance Happen to Them All

By Pinnacle Message

Ecclesiastes 9:11 – “I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong… but time and chance happen to them all.”

Narration: The Mystery of Moments

Life unfolds like an unpredictable stream—sometimes gentle, sometimes violent. The swift are not always victorious; the wise do not always prosper; the brave sometimes fall. In this mystery of divine timing, Solomon, in his deep wisdom, gazed upon humanity’s race and realized: “Time and chance happen to them all.”

The sun rises on the righteous and the unrighteous. Rain falls upon the just and the unjust. Men plan their days, but heaven decides the outcome. In this divine equation of purpose and opportunity, no human strength guarantees success, and no weakness ensures failure.

Exposition: The Divine Calendar of Events

There is a rhythm in creation—a divine order unseen yet profoundly orchestrated. God sets time in motion and allows chance as the testing ground of faith.
Let us examine this through seven spiritual anchors:

  1. Ecclesiastes 3:1 – “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

    • Interpretation: God is not random. Every joy and trial carries a divine appointment. What seems accidental is often the unfolding of eternity’s calendar.

  2. Proverbs 16:9 – “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

    • Interpretation: Human ambition builds the road, but divine sovereignty decides the destination. Every turn, delay, or detour is a tool in the hand of Providence.

  3. Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”

    • Interpretation: Even misfortune bends its knee to purpose. Time and chance may seem chaotic, but heaven harmonizes them for divine good.

  4. Psalm 31:15 – “My times are in Thy hand.”

    • Interpretation: The believer walks not by calendar, but by covenant. Every tick of time is held in the palm of the Almighty.

  5. James 4:13–15 – “You who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go…’ Yet you do not know what tomorrow brings.”

    • Interpretation: Plans without prayer are fragile. Time and chance humble the proud and remind humanity that breath itself is borrowed.

  6. Galatians 6:9 – “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

    • Interpretation: Divine timing is never delayed—it’s deliberate. The “due season” is God’s stamp of approval upon patient faith.

  7. Habakkuk 2:3 – “For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come.”

    • Interpretation: Destiny has a divine clock. What seems postponed is actually preserved for perfection.

Interpretation: The Mirror to Every Soul

Time and chance reveal who we truly are. When the door opens, do we step in faith? When the door closes, do we still trust God? Every believer is shaped not by events themselves, but by how they respond to the timing of heaven.

God does not measure success by speed or power, but by endurance and faith. The one who walks with God learns that delay is not denial—it is divine alignment. The storm you feared might be the very wind that carries your purpose.

Every sunrise carries opportunity; every sunset, reflection. What you call coincidence may just be God’s hidden choreography—a dance of grace weaving time and chance into divine testimony.

Preaching Reflection

Beloved, your time is not lost, and your chance is not gone. You are still within the rhythm of God’s orchestration. Let this truth awaken you:

When you move in faith, time obeys you. When you walk in purpose, chance bows to you.

So walk boldly. Trust the invisible timing of heaven. Even when it seems the world passes you by, remember — in God’s calendar, you are right on time.

Closing Benediction

May every tick of your clock echo with faith.
May every chance you encounter reveal divine design.
And may your life testify that under the sun, though all men share time and chance,
the one who walks with God never walks in vain.
