When the Stone Was Rolled Away: Witnessing the Empty Tomb

Exploring the awe of the first Easter morning.
By Pinnacle Message

There are mornings that change everything.
And then there is Resurrection Morning — when death lost its grip, and eternity stepped into daylight.

The women came to the tomb early, while it was still dark. Grief heavy, hearts broken. Their Savior, the One who had healed, taught, and loved with divine authority, now lay buried behind a sealed stone. Or so they thought.

But what they encountered wasn’t silence.
It was glory breaking through stillness.

“And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.”
— Luke 24:2

The stone — meant to secure death — had been moved by Heaven. The guards were powerless. The grave was empty. And an angel stood there with a message that would echo through every generation:

“He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
— Matthew 28:6

This was no ordinary event. It was a divine unveiling. The veil torn. The tomb opened. Hope alive.

“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen.”
— Luke 24:5–6

These words would travel like fire across the hearts of believers, first whispered in wonder and then shouted in every language and nation. Resurrection wasn’t just about what happened to Jesus — it was the birth of a new reality: that life, not death, would have the final word.

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”
— John 11:25

And so the first witnesses ran — not with tears, but with testimony. They carried the truth to those in hiding. Fear was replaced with faith. Despair turned into praise.

“Then went in also that other disciple… and he saw, and believed.”
— John 20:8

This moment is more than memory.
It is the cornerstone of our message at Pinnacle :
The stone was rolled away — and so was the weight of sin. The tomb was emptied — and so was our shame.

Today, we don’t just remember the scene.
We step into it.

We live in the light of it.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
— 1 Peter 1:3
