Rise Above It – Volume 6: Rising Above Distractions
By Pinnacle Message
“You can’t walk on water if your eyes are on the wind.”
Introduction
Distraction is one of the enemy’s most effective weapons—not through destruction, but through diversion. It pulls our attention, our passion, and our purpose into fragmented living. Many believers begin strong but get entangled in the noise of life, the opinions of others, or the traps of comparison. This volume teaches you how to refocus your spirit, anchor your gaze on Christ, and rise above every interruption that tries to dim your calling.
1. Hebrews 12:2 – “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”
Narration: The writer exhorts believers to endure the race by fixing their gaze on Jesus.
Exposition: Distraction breaks momentum; focus completes assignments.
Interpretation: To rise, you must look up. Your direction follows your attention.
Motivation: Lock eyes with the Savior and don’t look away—not even for a second.
2. Matthew 14:30 – “But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid…”
Narration: Peter begins to sink when he shifts his focus from Jesus to the storm.
Exposition: Fear enters through distraction.
Interpretation: You were walking by faith until you let the wind speak louder than the Word.
Motivation: Get your eyes back on Jesus—He’s still calling you to walk above the waves.
3. Luke 10:41–42 – “Martha, Martha… you are worried and upset about many things…”
Narration: Jesus gently corrects Martha for allowing busyness to replace presence.
Exposition: Not all distractions are sinful—some are simply misplaced priorities.
Interpretation: The urgent can’t replace the essential. Time with Jesus must remain first.
Motivation: Don’t just serve—sit. Don’t just do—dwell.
4. Proverbs 4:25–27 – “Let your eyes look straight ahead…”
Narration: Solomon gives wisdom on focused living.
Exposition: Wandering eyes lead to wandering paths.
Interpretation: Stay locked into the narrow way. One small detour can delay destiny.
Motivation: Keep your vision clean, your spirit sharp, and your path sure.
5. 1 Corinthians 7:35 – “That you may attend upon the Lord without distraction.”
Narration: Paul advises believers to maintain undivided devotion.
Exposition: The goal of spiritual discipline is single-hearted focus.
Interpretation: Distractions dilute your devotion and divide your strength.
Motivation: Protect your time with God—it is the wellspring of every other success.
6. Nehemiah 6:3 – “I am doing a great work and cannot come down…”
Narration: Nehemiah refuses to leave the wall despite enemy invitations.
Exposition: Distractions often come dressed as invitations.
Interpretation: Know what you’re building and why—then refuse every detour.
Motivation: Don’t come down. Stay on the wall.
7. Psalm 119:37 – “Turn my eyes away from worthless things…”
Narration: The psalmist pleads for divine help in staying focused.
Exposition: Not everything good is God.
Interpretation: Your spirit must be trained to ignore what’s empty and fix on what’s eternal.
Motivation: Lift your eyes. Guard your gaze. Feed your soul what matters.
Final Word: Guard Your Gaze, Fuel Your Fire
Distractions may come in waves, but so does grace. Every time your attention drifts, God lovingly calls you back. Don’t let the temporary replace the eternal. Your vision is sacred. Protect it.
“If your eye is single, your whole body shall be full of light.” – Matthew 6:22
Believer, rise above it. You were made to soar—not scatter. Anchor your eyes on Jesus and run your race with holy focus.
