Rise Above It – Volume 7: Rising Above the Flesh

By Pinnacle Message

“The flesh pulls down, but the Spirit lifts up.”

Introduction

The greatest battlefield is not around you—it’s within you. Every believer is engaged in a daily conflict between flesh and Spirit, and the outcome of that war shapes the strength of our faith and the purity of our walk. But God has not left us helpless. Through the power of His Spirit, we can rise above the cravings, habits, and temptations of the flesh and walk in true freedom. This volume teaches you how.

1. Galatians 5:16 – “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

Narration: Paul lays the foundation for victorious living.
Exposition: To rise above the flesh, you must walk in the Spirit—not visit occasionally, but live in step with Him.
Interpretation: Victory over the flesh is not in trying harder, but in walking closer.
Motivation: Feed your spirit daily, and your flesh will starve.

2. Romans 8:13 – “If you live after the flesh, you shall die…”

Narration: Paul explains the spiritual consequences of flesh-led living.
Exposition: The flesh may feel good temporarily, but it leads to spiritual decay.
Interpretation: What you entertain today could enslave you tomorrow.
Motivation: Kill the flesh daily by the word—before it kills your calling.

3. Matthew 26:41 – “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Narration: Jesus warns the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Exposition: Willingness isn’t enough—watchfulness is required.
Interpretation: Even your best intentions can collapse if you don't guard your spirit.
Motivation: Stay alert. Prayer is your defense against spiritual weakness.

4. 1 Peter 2:11 – “Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.”

Narration: Peter pleads with believers to protect their inner life.
Exposition: Fleshly temptations don’t just scratch the surface—they fight your very soul.
Interpretation: Every compromise is a spiritual wound in disguise.
Motivation: Don’t trade your soul’s health for the flesh’s thrill.

5. Galatians 5:24 – “They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh…”

Narration: Paul defines the identity of true believers.
Exposition: Crucifixion is not a moment—it’s a daily choice.
Interpretation: To belong to Christ means war with your flesh is non-negotiable.
Motivation: You can’t walk in resurrection power without carrying your cross.

6. Colossians 3:5 – “Mortify therefore your members…”

Narration: Paul calls believers to put sin to death—not tame it.
Exposition: “Mortify” means to cut off life supply—to starve sinful impulses.
Interpretation: You rise above by removing what drags you below.
Motivation: Stop managing sin—start eliminating it.

7. Romans 13:14 – “Make no provision for the flesh…”

Narration: Paul gives a practical charge: don’t prepare space for sin.
Exposition: Provision is planning—if you feed the flesh, it will grow.
Interpretation: Starve temptation by cutting off access.
Motivation: Don’t flirt with what God told you to flee.

Final Word: The Spirit Gives Flight

Rising above the flesh is not about perfection—it’s about pursuit. Every day, you get to choose who leads—your old nature or your renewed spirit. God’s grace empowers the choice, and His Spirit leads the charge.

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” – Galatians 5:25

Believer, rise above it. Crucify the flesh. Fuel the Spirit. And soar in the power of God’s holiness.
