BIBLICAL POEMS – Volume 4

Under the Shadow of His Wings

Scripture Anchor

Psalm 91:4
"He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."

Psalm 57:1
"Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in You I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until the disaster has passed."

Matthew 23:37
"How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing."

The Poem

When evening falls and shadows veil the sky,
And anxious hearts are burdened by the night,
There is a refuge waiting ever nigh—
The shelter of God's everlasting light.

No storm can steal the peace His presence gives,
No wind can shake the promise He has made;
Within His love the weary spirit lives,
Secure beneath His never-failing shade.

His wings are not of feathers formed by air,
But mercy stretched across eternity;
A covering woven from unfailing care,
A fortress built by grace for you and me.

The world may tremble, kingdoms rise and fall,
Yet heaven's refuge still remains the same;
His faithful arms are open to us all,
Inviting every soul to call His name.

When tears descend like rain upon the earth,
His gentle presence whispers, "Do not fear."
The God who formed the stars and gave them birth
Draws every broken, seeking pilgrim near.

Rest now beneath the shadow of His wings;
Where fear grows silent and hope learns to sing.

Narration

This poem draws its inspiration from one of Scripture's most comforting images—the protective wings of God. Throughout the Bible, the Lord is portrayed as One who lovingly gathers His people into His care, shielding them from fear, despair, and spiritual danger. The imagery is deeply personal, revealing not only God's power but also His compassion.

Like a parent sheltering a child during a storm, God surrounds His people with His presence. His protection is not merely physical; it is spiritual, emotional, and eternal. Beneath His wings, the believer discovers peace that surpasses understanding and strength for every season.

Exposition

Psalm 91 presents God as the ultimate refuge, promising that those who dwell in His presence will find safety beneath His wings. This beautiful metaphor speaks of divine faithfulness—a protection rooted not in changing circumstances but in God's unchanging character.

Psalm 57 echoes this confidence, as David seeks shelter in God until danger passes. Rather than trusting his own strength, he places his hope in the Lord's faithful care.

Jesus Himself uses this imagery in Matthew 23, expressing His longing to gather His people together with the tenderness of a loving shepherd. These passages reveal that God's protection is always accompanied by His invitation: Come near.

Interpretation

"Under the Shadow of His Wings" reminds believers that true security is found not in wealth, influence, or human strength, but in the presence of God.

Life's storms will come. There will be seasons of uncertainty, grief, temptation, and waiting. Yet the promise of Scripture remains unchanged: those who dwell in the Lord are never abandoned.

The shadow of His wings symbolizes more than safety—it represents relationship. God does not simply rescue from a distance; He welcomes His children into intimate fellowship with Himself.

When believers remain close to God through prayer, His Word, and faithful obedience, fear loses its authority, and peace becomes their dwelling place.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being my refuge and my shelter. When fear surrounds me and life's storms seem overwhelming, teach me to remain beneath the shadow of Your wings. Help me to trust Your promises more than my circumstances and to rest in Your unfailing love.

Cover my family, strengthen my faith, and remind me each day that Your presence is my greatest security. May I always find peace in Your nearness and courage in Your faithfulness.

In the precious name of Jesus Christ,

Amen.

Closing Reflection

No matter what tomorrow brings, remember this eternal promise:

The safest place on earth is not found in a location—it is found in the presence of God.

"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."Psalm 91:1
