Strength for the Step You Have Never Taken Before
Scripture Anchor: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:8
New seasons often require new courage.
There are moments when God leads us beyond everything familiar. The old season has ended, but the new one has not yet become comfortable. You find yourself standing between what you know and what God is asking you to trust.
That place can feel frightening.
But it can also become one of the greatest places of spiritual growth.
When Israel approached the Jordan River, the people were entering territory they had never walked before. Joshua told them, “You have never been this way before” (Joshua 3:4).
What a powerful description of faith.
Sometimes God deliberately leads us onto roads we have never travelled because He wants us to discover dimensions of His faithfulness we have never experienced.
Peter experienced this when Jesus called him out of the boat.
“Come,” Jesus said.
And Peter stepped onto the water (Matthew 14:29).
Think about that moment. Peter could have remained inside the boat where everything felt familiar. Instead, he stepped toward Jesus into an environment where human ability was insufficient.
That is often where God's strength becomes most visible.
Paul reminds us, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
Your strength is not limited to your natural ability because your source is greater than yourself.
When you feel weak, remember God's promise to Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Perhaps you are facing something today that you have never faced before.
Do not immediately interpret unfamiliar territory as dangerous territory.
Sometimes unfamiliar territory is promised territory.
The Israelites had never lived in Canaan—but God had already promised it.
David had never fought a giant—but God had already prepared him.
Esther had never stood before the king uninvited—but God had positioned her.
Peter had never walked on water—but Jesus had already said, “Come.”
And perhaps you have never taken the step that stands before you today.
But God has.
He already knows where it leads.
Deeper Reflection
Do not ask only:
“Have I ever done this before?”
Ask:
“Has God called me to take this step?”
Because when God calls you forward, His strength accompanies His instruction.
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).
You may be entering unfamiliar territory, but you are not entering it alone.
Take the step.
God's strength will meet you there.
