Friday — Prayer & Power

The Prayer That Welcomes God’s Direction

Scripture Anchor — Psalm 143:10 (KJV)
“Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.”

It is possible to ask God to guide us while quietly hoping He will approve the route we have already chosen. We bring our plans into prayer, explain why they matter, and wait for reassurance.

Then Scripture leads us into a deeper request: “Teach me to do Thy will.”

David’s prayer in Psalm 143 expresses dependence. He needs deliverance, but he also asks to be taught. He wants God’s direction to shape the way he lives.

As this week closes, we can make that prayer our own. We can thank God for what has happened, acknowledge where we have struggled, and welcome His instruction for the days ahead.

God’s direction often touches our character before it changes our circumstances. We may ask which opportunity to pursue while His Word calls us to address dishonesty, resentment, or neglect. Colossians 1:9–10 connects knowing God’s will with walking in a way that pleases Him and bearing fruit in good work.

A guided life becomes visible through the choices we make.

Proverbs 3:5–6 calls us to trust the Lord, acknowledge Him, and resist treating our own understanding as sufficient. This does not remove the need for careful thought. It teaches us to bring our thinking under God’s wisdom.

Psalm 25:4–5 gives us words for that posture: “Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me.”

Let this be our prayer as October ends and a new month approaches.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for carrying me through this week. You saw the decisions I made, the responsibilities I carried, and the moments when my confidence grew weak. Thank You for the mercy that has met me along the way.

Today, I welcome Your direction.

Teach me to recognize what is true. Bring Your Word to bear upon my choices. Give me humility to receive correction and patience to seek wise counsel.

Forgive me for the times I have rushed ahead, ignored a responsibility, or asked You to bless something I was unwilling to examine. Search my heart and lead me in the way everlasting, as Psalm 139:23–24 teaches me to pray.

Where I need to act, give me courage. Where I need to prepare, give me discipline. Where I need to make amends, help me speak honestly and follow through.

Teach me to consider how my decisions affect others. Let love shape my words, integrity guide my work, and generosity influence the way I use what You provide.

Jesus, You prayed, “Not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42). Form that willing spirit in me. Help me trust the Father even when obedience is costly.

I place the coming days before You. Order my steps, deepen my understanding, and help me respond faithfully to what You have already made clear.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

This Weekend’s Step: Read Psalm 25:4–5 slowly. Write down one area where you need direction and one instruction from Scripture you can begin practicing today.
